History
Among the four lakes in the Soon valley, the largest lake is
Uchhali Lake. It is the largest salt water lake in Kohistan Namak which is
about 5000 feet above the sea level. This lake came into existence due to lack
of effective drainage system. This lake is 437 years old according to revenue
records. In the past, Uchhali lake was formerly known as samandar. Surprisingly,
the water of Uchhali lake is salty and brackish, and the water from wells and
tube wells around is sweet. Due to its brackish water, the lake is lifeless but
offers picturesque scenery. Uchhali Lake is the base level of the upland part
of the Soon valley.
Area
In 1863, the area of Uchhali lake was 1425 acres, in 1890 it
was 1128 acres and in 1892 due to heavy rains, its area had expanded to 2550
acres. Now in the present era, its total area consists of 943 acres.
And the depth of water in it is said to be about 378 feet.
Arrival of beautiful and rare birds
Uchhali Lake attracts hundreds of migratory birds every year and
is an ideal haven for bird watchers. Uchhali Lake is one
of the few lakes where every year birds from Siberia, Mongolia and Central
Asian countries reach the water of Uchhali Lake through snowy valleys and
difficult areas and breed here. "Rain Route" is the route through which these
migratory birds come.
Siberian birds include the rare white-headed duck, coots, goose,
Swans, flamingo, and 50 other species of birds that nest in the lakes of the
Soon valley (Uchhali Lake, Khabeki Lake, Jahler Lake, Ahmedabad Lake).
This lake is a favorite habitat of Siberian birds that start
coming here at the onset of winter and then return in mid-spring. But the young
of these birds are raised here.
This lake is in the list of “Union for Conservation of Nature”

Boats are also available for boating, but in winter, boating is
prohibited, so as not to disturb the visiting birds.
Tourist irresponsibility and pollution are ruining the natural
beauty of the lake in wadi Soon sakesar. A little attention from the Ministry of Tourism can improve
the beauty of the lake as well as the rate of tourism.
In 1986, the lake was legally designated as a National Game
Reserve and since 1996 as an International Ramsar Site.
